Funan Anime Matsuri 2014

Funan Anime Matsuri (祭り matsuri means festival) is one of the annual Japanese Pop culture events organized by Anime Festival Asia (AFA). This time, it features guest cosplayers from Taiwan, Malaysia, China, South Korea and Japan. It features the usual things such as the Maid n Butler Cafe, a Creator's Hub for local artists, an area for merchandises such as figurines and titbits from Japan and an area for card games.

Our emcee for the event is none other than Kai whom has emceed various events by AFA. He also acts as a Mandarin and Japanese translator especially for the guest that are from Japan, Taiwan and China.

Guest Cosplayers
Ying Tze (Malaysia)

Her short workshops were on sewing or costume making with focus on pattern making as it is the most important step. According to her, once pattern making is mastered, any costume can be easily made/created.

Her short workshops were on costume making and make-up. Costume making was focused on modifying a pair of heels into boots.

Sakuya (Japan)


Sakuya gave tips on how to she styles wigs using Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji as an example and how she did her make-up for her Undertaker cosplay. Tools for wig styling, wig, scissors, wax, super hard hair spray and a hair iron.

Akatsuki Tsukasa and H (Taiwan)

Akatsuki Tsukasa gave two workshops which were on costume making and make-up. Costume making was on making a common female head-dress in anime. Her make-up was based on her cosplay of Elsa from Frozen.

H's workshop was on wig styling using Akashi from Kuroko no Basuke as an example.

Hana and BaoZi (China)
The cosplay duo from China with Hana being the make-up wizard and BaoZi the prop maker.

Hana conducted a short make-up workshop and BaoZi did a prop making workshop to make the goldfish plant from Hoozuki no Reitetsu.

Other Stage Events
Illustration Workshop
Two workshops were conducted by illustrators from Collateral Damage Studios. They are the creators of the mascot for Internet Explorer 8, Aizawa Inori. Too bad this portion was plagued by technical difficulties.

Performance by Itowokashi (イトヲカシ)
No photography, video and audio recording was allowed during their appearance. So, no pictures for this except their fans. Their official website in Japanese here.

She is part of the Asian Pop Collective (APC) and the emcee for AFA's Youtube channel program, "WOW Japan". Same for Itowokashi, no photography, video and audio recording was allowed during her performance.

Press Conference on Gundam: Duel Company
A new online/offline trading card game based on the popular anime series, Gundam. Official release date will be on 4 July 2014. More information in Japanese here.
